Motek 2021: Schmalz in digital flow

Motek is taking place - live and face to face. Schmalz will be there with innovations for automation specialists as well as digitization and ergonomics specialists: intelligent grippers, MATCH extensions, digital and mobile solutions for tube lifters and much more will be presented by the vacuum expert from October 5 to 8 in Hall 7, Booth 7101.

Motek 2021: Schmalz in digital flow
"Ergonomics to go" is the motto of the new vacuum lifter JumboFlex Picker.

Networking, digitizing and automating - the topics of the international trade fair are precisely those in which J. Schmalz GmbH is at home. The vacuum expert proves this with its new PXT modular gripper system for cobots, lightweight robots and fully automated applications. This is based on a few standard components, is extremely variable and, with its maximum load of 25 kilograms, closes the gap between the VEE, which can carry loads of up to two kilograms, and the Schmalz Tooling System SXT, which is designed for loads over 25 kilograms.

The SLG lightweight gripping system is also quickly configured and ideal for use on lightweight robots. With the update of the SLG configurator, Schmalz has improved its usability and range of applications: The configurator is now just as easy to use with a smartphone or tablet. The user can get support directly in the newly integrated live chat. In addition, more suction cup types, vacuum generators and flange plates are available for selection.

Highlights at the booth will also be the bin picking solutions: the SBPG slim bin picker and the 3D-R vision & handling set. In addition to the vacuum gripping system, the latter contains a camera and a projector. Depending on the software variant, it can pack, sort and deposit flat and rectangular surfaces (BoxPick) or complex and varying surfaces (ItemPick) particularly well.

Data recycler for MATCH and tube lifter
Hardly on the market, already there is MATCH news: With "Cloud", Schmalz expands the functionality of the new end-of-arm platform for lightweight robots. The Schmalz Connect Suite plays an important role here. It evaluates and visualizes the data collected in the system without affecting the PLC or the control process. Users can then use a dashboard on their smartphone, tablet or PC to capture important information such as performance, energy consumption, the maintenance plan or recommended actions at a glance. This works both locally and via a cloud.

With the i-version of the FXP/FMP, Schmalz presents its universal gripper as a communicative end-of-arm tool. Relevant data from the gripper is transferred to all common fieldbus systems via an IO-Link interface, thus enabling process monitoring in the form of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. The integrated NFC technology makes it easy for users to parameterize the flexible gripper via smartphone.

Gathering and using data is now also possible for manual lifting aids. For this purpose, Schmalz is showing a new tool that records and evaluates operating data from tube lifters and thus enables predictive maintenance. The user can directly see the degree of contamination of the filter as well as the status of the vacuum generator. By recording and analyzing the process data over the long term, he can optimize the energy efficiency and degree of utilization of his device.

JumboFlex Picker and Weight-Control
A classic at the booth is the vacuum lifter JumboFlex. Here, too, there are innovations: The JumboFlex Picker makes manual handling mobile. With an industrial truck - be it an ant or a forklift truck - it is quickly moved to the place where that little bit more ergonomics is needed for lifting and palletizing. The new additional Weight Control function ensures greater process control when working with the JumboFlex: as soon as a workpiece is suspended from the tube lifter, it measures its weight and shows it on an integrated display. Furthermore, the user can enter weight limits in advance, which the system compares with the actual weight of the load during lifting. An LED light strip directly indicates whether the lifted object is within the parameterized frame. This is made possible by a load cell integrated into the JumboFlex.
